Disturbing Thoughts

Chills ran up my spine and my hair stood a little bit on end while I was scanning news headlines and perusing articles about President-elect Obama's plans to deal with the economic crisis.

The concept of an elective war sapping billions from the treasury, an economic crisis of historic proportions, and increasing political polarity combining to topple a giant on the world stage appears eerily familiar. Where have I heard/seen this before?

Oh yes…perhaps the Soviet Union of the early '90's?

I wonder…is there some foreign Reagan-esque figure lining up to take credit for the "fall of the United States?"

No, I can't quite believe that we are falling… Perhaps this 2008 election happened just in time to pull us back from the edge. But we were leaning.

Definitely leaning.

In our house it feels like we have already fallen. My husbands 401k has hemoraged all it can. My personal stock is worth less than a quarter of what I paid for it.
Hubby is laid off indefinately. Yep, here it feels like we have fallen off.

We're in a world of hurt. There's no doubt about it. While so many of us have individually fallen and crashed, I'm still not questioning our country's place in the world. This economic crisis is everywhere, not just here in the States.

Yep, I feel too like I've fallen when it gets harder and harder to make my pension stretch to cover the basics. My 457 (state version of 401k) lost 25 thousand dollars in the crash! At least the gas prices are dropping!! Ab and her boyfriend have exhaustively tried to get a job here in our little town. Not happening! Uggghh!

Well, at least I'm in good company. I got tagged in the third round of layoffs that started in July, really. We'll be ok for awhile.

I think we'll pull out of this eventually but it's going to take time a lot of creativity.

Jackie--

Oh no! But it's not surprising, really... The RV industry must be reeling, what with no money available to buy them, and gas too expensive to run them...

If you need anything, let me know, my friend.
