SILK PURSE?

From Jim Morin courtesy of Go Comics.

I see on AOL news this morning that the Republican National Committee has reportedly spent over $150,000 dressing up Sarah Palin. Words ........ fail me. That is a lot of lipstick.

Oh, and the national hockey mom didn't spend any of the money at Wal Mart.

And I think that is what bothers me. Why did the clothes have to be designer? The whole scene stinks like yesterday's trash. I am so glad it came out now. More fuel for the Palin bonfire. D

I remember reading the day after the RNC that her jacket, much complimented (& I thought it looked good) was Valentino (I think) & cost $750. Ouch. A little out of the range of most of us. But $150,000 grand on hair & clothes, at Neiman's & Saks...all so she can better relate to the pee-pul. Give me a break. To say nothing of the thousands to fly the kids around with her. She is such a frigging narcissist...

To be fair, we need to find out how much the parties spend on suits, elevator shoes, etc. and whatnot for the male candidates before we knock Ms. Palin for this. And I'm sure Hillary doesn't shop at Wal-mart, either.

Truth be told, designers are probably begging Palin to wear their stuff. She gets a lot of high-profile on-camera time.

So, if designers are probably begging her to wear their stuff ... then why is there any cost associated with it? Oh. Shipping. Of course.

You are correct Lisa, we do need to be fair. There is a fair amount of wasteful spending across the board and while I don't approve, I don't profess to know a whole heck of a lot about it.

But. It's darned hard for me to sit across a table from someone with designer duds on when I am wearing my Morgan Memorial jeans ... circa 1983 with creases taht will never quit. You know?

Regarding what the other candidates have spent on clothes...the question is, did the campaign pay for them?

She certainly did not have to shop at Saks and Neiman's. I had heard that some of this money went to dressing up the entire family.

OK, I'm hopelessly naive here. Are you telling me the DNC & RNC PAY for the candidates' CLOTHES?!?!?! No way! That's part of what the campaign finance laws of the early 90's outlawed, didn't they? And $150,000 at N-M & SAKS? Why didn't Miss candidate of the pee-pul do like she supposedly did with the bridge to nowhere (not) and just say, "Theeaaannkkks, bawt nooooo theeeaaaankkkks!"
