Why did we think that when the Democrats came to power a year ago, things would change?
Political events of the last couple of weeks have proven this untrue. Things have oh-so-not changed.
Nothing brought this home to me more stunningly than something I saw yesterday. Out in public, in a tourist shopping district on the Oregon Coast.
I passed, on the sidewalk, a grown man sporting a sweatshirt that read:
I’D RATHER BE WATERBOARDING.
Never mind why would anyone wear something like that? Why would anyone sell something that disgusting? How could anyone even think of it?
But some red-blooded, tax-paying, enterprising American did.
And you can get your very own “waterboarding” shirt here.
It’s a joke. Piss off your “lefty” friends.
Ha-ha.
Oh. My. God.
We are so doomed.

Why are we in this handbasket and where are we going?
Yeah, that sounds pretty disgusting. Sorta makes me think that anyone who buys or sells a shirt like that should be waterboarded. Might make them think twice.
I was pretty depressed about a poll I saw not long after the attempted underwear bombing. About 2/3rds of respondents said that terrorism suspects should be held as enemy combatants with no constitutional rights. Then there was also the brouhaha about the FBI questioning the underwear bomber instead of turning him over to homeland security. Like the FBI doesn't know how to interrogate someone. Jeez!
I've been watching The Tudors on Netflix and it seems to me we haven't gained much, in terms of civilization or humanism, since Henry VIII...and I find that incredibly depressing.
Oy. The more things change the more they stay the same.
Y'know I saw that tshirt on a guy on a motorbike in Washington DC several years ago, and couldn't believe my eyes. I almost had a stroke right there on the sidewalk.
