Back to Election Apathy...

This made me laugh out loud today.  Is it some kind of twisted humor?  It's so accurate, it really shouldn't be funny.

I instantly thought back to our early discussion of why it's difficult to whip up any enthusiasm for our candidates and the lack of substance in what they offer.  Why in the world would we run out and pour time, effort, or money into supporting a campaign or be chomping at the bit to run to the polls, when what we get back boils down to this?

I was so put off--and disappointed--by this latest "I'm more patriotic than you are" bid by the two candidates.  The concept of "patriotism"--which usually boils down to xenophobic, sabre-rattling, foaming-at-the-mouth nationalism--is not one I really care to get on board behind.  I can appreciate living in this country without assigning that emotion some kind of mindless religious fervor.  This crap is what the media have done to our national election process...

Worrying about the economy ... yep.  That's me.

I don't need a flag pin, a salute, a whistling idiot or apple pie to know that patriotism is alive and well here in the states.  Whatever patriotism is to 'you' I'm not sure we have to wear it on our sleeves.

If nothing else, my vote ensures my right to bitch. And this is the kind of funny you laugh at while you're searching for the antacid. Anything, so long as I don't barf on my keyboard.

Now if only a candidate would step up the platform and tell us "how" they plan on showing their love of country in reforms, economy and welfare of this countries inhabitants... I might be interested. (Hugs)Indigo

I hope that when Obama becomes president, we hold his feet to the fire to do something about the media's lousy "reporting".  How about reinstating the Fairness Doctrine first.  And, breaking up monopolies second.
