Choosing...

Lots of choices out there these days...  Topics?  Presidents?  How about we combine the two...

I saw this in Kathy's journal and I thought it was hilarious.  And right on target.

Electile Dysfunction : the inability to become aroused over any of the choices for president put forth by either party in the 2008 election year.

Ya think the drug companies will come up with a miracle cure for this one?

So, why are we not excited, my friends?  I will be back after my upcoming l-o-n-g day to give you my thoughts...

Gee, could it be the feeling that the candidates were chosen long before we knew was involved?

How about the attitude of the current crew that once we're elected the voter's opinion doesnt' matter?

Long time admirer of Lincoln that I am, I never thought I'd say this: secession looks pretty damn good right now.

I've had a moment to ponder this ... this why are we not excited?
There is no succint or simple answer.

For my 55th birthday I dragged 11 of my friends and co-workers to the Kennedy Presidential Library.  (who knew I had that many?)

I wanted to see if he was all I remembered him to be, because I thought, 'if we could just have another candidate like Kennedy all those years ago, maybe some enthusiasm would burst forth.'

He wasn't all I thought he was.  I was a kid.  I was in awe of the President from Massachusetts (along with being a student in a parochial school).

He was so much more than what we have to choose from today, but not enough even then.  But he did have that charm, that charisma, that way about him ...

... that way that had Americans (for or against) stand up and take notice.

I was thrilled with the birthday gig ... because I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful displays and artefacts and information (one sided though it may be).

I'm still looking for a candidate that gives me chills.  Not gonna happen any time soon me thinks.

I keep on thinking of that excellent old film, The Candidate, all about how the process itself corrupts...and my firstborn, who lives in Chicago and was a huge fan of Obama, will vote for him but is less than enthusiastic about him these days...having seen/heard the changes that happen as the individual becomes The Candidate...I've lost my enthusiasm myself...
